The Parish Council and the residents of Preston and Elmstone welcome newcomers to our village.
This page provides details of village amenities, services, organisations and contacts and of some within the surrounding area of East Kent. While far from being exhaustive, we hope it will prove useful to newcomers and that it will help you to find your way around.

    At the junction of Court Lane and Preston Road  
    By the bus shelter in The Street, just north of Preston Stores, last collection 4pm. (Monday to Friday only)  
    At Elmstone in the wall of the Old Rectory  

    Please note that there is NO Sunday collection from Preston; the nearest is from Wingham P.O.

    Wingham. Closed Saturdays from 12.30 pm.
Upstreet. Closed Wednesday and Saturday from 1pm

8 Travel and Public Transport

  Bus services (poor from the village):
    Preston to Canterbury: Stagecoach Route 622  
    4 buses a day Monday to Saturday to Canterbury, and 4 from Canterbury to Preston, one of which runs to Margate – one way only. Times vary in School holidays.

 
    Island Hoppa (Eastonways) Route 51  
    3 buses a day, weekdays only to Aylesham via Wingham and return. One only, weekday mornings at 9.30a.m., goes to Margate and Westwood via Thanet villages.

 
    From Wingham  
    There are more frequent buses to Canterbury, Sandwich and Deal from Wingham.

12 Refuse and Recycling

  Preston: Main collection is on Thursday mornings weekly from 7a.m. Bottles and paper are collected fortnightly on Thursday mornings. There are also dedicated recycling skips in the Village Hall car park.  
  Elmstone: The refuse collection is on Mondays from 12 noon. Bottles and paper are collected fortnightly on Thursday mornings.
